National Day of Prayer observed at City Hall

The National Day of Prayer was observed in Eunice at noon Thursday at the City Hall parking lot and pavilion. This year’s theme is derived from James 5:16b, “Pray Fervently in Righteousness and Avail Much: “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

St. Edmund Spring Fair begins Friday

St. Edmund Catholic School’s Spring Fair begins at 5 p.m. Friday and will conclude on Sunday at 6 p.m. The hours for Friday are 5 to 9 p.m., from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Tri-Parish workforce down 0.4%

The Tri-Parish workforce in March was down by 308 people or 0.4% from March 2022, according to data released by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. Unemployment rates were down or the same as a year ago in March. The Tri-Parish workforce totaled 68,272, down from 68,580.

LAWCO’s Eunice water system gets a top grade

LAWCO’s Eunice water system earned an A in final water grades for 951 community water systems across the state released Monday by the Louisiana Department of Health. The final water grades follow preliminary grades that were published in January.

Ville Platte vault heist netted $20,000

Police were baffled after someone used a cutting torch to open the vault in a store in the LaHaye building in Ville Platte early in the morning of June 21, 1962. The culprits got away with $20,000 — which may still be the biggest robbery ever in Evangeline Parish.

Information sought in shooting of 2 donkeys

Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies need help to in animal cruelty case. Deputies are investigating a senseless act of cruelty which occurred on April 17 on Soldier Road near Mire. Two donkeys were discovered to have been shot within the property that they were kept.
