Concealed Carry Permit class set Saturday The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a one day concealed carry permit training class beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at 211 West Park, in Eunice The course is $100 and $80 for a spouse or renewal.

Coushatta Tribe announces 26th annual Powwow June 9-10

KINDER — The Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana will host its 26th annual powwow in The Pavilion at Coushatta Casino Resort on Friday and Saturday, June 9-10. Admission for the general public is $8 per day; children ages 6 years and younger are admitted free of charge.

Lane to close on U.S. 190

The outside lane of U.S. 190 westbound will be closed at the St. Landry/Evangeline Parish line near Eunice on Monday from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weather permitting. This closure is necessary to allow crews to remove drift from Bayou des Cannes.

LSUE Phi Theta Kappa chapter wins national awards

The LSU Eunice chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) recently took home several major honors at the organization’s National Conference, Catalyst 2023, it was recently announced. For a fourth consecutive year, the LSUE chapter was named a “Top 100” chapter in the world.

Edward “Ed” Bush, executive director of Capital West Chapter of the American Red Cross, was the guest speaker Wednesday at the Eunice Rotary Club. Bush said, “The Red Cross covers 22 parishes that goes from Baton Rouge over to Lafayette and all the way to Lake Charles.

Batiste is the new school superintendent

The St. Landry Parish School Board voted 12-1 to hire Milton Batiste III as the next school superintendent. The vote at a special meeting on Wednesday was greeted by cheers from the crowd that included his family and former St. Landry Parish School Board co-workers.

Babineaux Sisters to perform Saturday in Eunice

The Prairie Acadian Cultural Center is partnering with the Eunice Depot Museum to bring back the live, acoustic music programs that were previously held at the center. The music programs will take place every second Saturday, beginning this Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.
