Eunice High principal is semi-finalist for state award

Eunice High School Principal Mitchell Fontenot is a semifinalist for state Principal of the Year for 2024. The state Department of Education announced Fontenot’s semifinalist status along with 23 other principals. In 2021, Fontenot was named a semi-finalist for Principal of the Year.

“The Vet Fest really is set up to make our veterans aware of the benefits that they have earned,” said Don Reber, state VFW commander. Navigating life after military service isn’t always an easy task and veterans can easily miss out on benefits they earned, he said.

Eunice Players’ Theatre presents “The Odd Couple” The Eunice Players’ Theatre presents “The Odd Couple.” The head of the all star cast is directed by Lauren Bourgeois. There are many new and veteran actors onstage for this comedy. The play continues at 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Azaleas are ubiquitous in Southern gardens — and for good reason. Each spring, the azalea bloom is a sight to see. Some travelers make trips to the South just to see this spectacular display of flowers, much like Southerners head north to enjoy the fall foliage change.

Planned rehab facility at Rayne scrapped

Residents along Nation Road north of Rayne no longer have to worry about a proposed drug and alcohol rehabilitation center opening in their neighborhood. Acadia Parish Police Jury President Chance Henry announced Tuesday night (March 14) that the development has been scrapped.
