Burn ban issued for St. Landry Parish St. Landry Parish Government has issued a burn ban in the parish effective immediately. The ban includes anything with an open flame that produces an ember. The wind can carry floating embers away from the original fire and start a spot fire.

Acadia superintendent’s contract extended to 2024

With his current contract ending on the final day of 2023, Acadia Parish Superintendent Scott Richard once again asked the school board on Tuesday to extend his contract to Sept. 6, 2024, the date he would be retiring.

St. Landry Parish school district hit by cyber security threat

The St. Landry School Board became aware of a threat against its computer network on July 26. Although servers on its network were compromised, the district reported that student and employee information systems are hosted on an outside network.
The first Amy Olivia Guidry Memorial Scholarship was awarded during the White Coat Ceremony at LSUE on Thursday. Guidry was a LSUE nursing graduate and nurse at the Lafayette General Hospital emergency room who died in July 2021. From left, are Mae Simoneaux, LSUE program director; Skee and Brittany Smith; scholarship recipient, Taylor Doughty; Chelsie Blanchard, of Ochsner Hospital Lafayette; and Wendel and Vanda Guidry, of Church Point. Brittany Smith is Guidry’s sister and the Guidrys are her parents.

The St. Landry Parish 2022-23 school year LEAP Mastery score improved to 25 compared to 23 the previous year. St. Landry Parish’s public school LEAP Mastery score remained below those in Acadia Parsh — 36 — and Evangeline Parish — 28.
