St. Landry Animal Control closes intake for restructuring

St. Landry Animal Control is announcing that its intake facilities will be closed to the public temporarily for restructuring purposes. During this time, the shelter will only be accepting emergency calls from the public.

Acadia Parish School Board approves 4-day school week

Following months of discussion, audience communications, and even a survey held throughout the parish, members of the Acadia Parish School Board finally voted on the anticipated four-day work/school week Thursday afternoon during a special meeting.

ELTL announces spring registration The Eunice Ladies Tennis League (ELTL) spring registration is underway until Tuesday. The league plays every Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Eunice Fairgrounds for 12 weeks.

Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band among featured heritage performers

The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band is among bands selected by the National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA) as National Heritage Fellows to perform at three National Park Service locations within the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. The performance will occur from March 7 to 11.

Parish Council sets special meeting on budget

The St. Landry Parish Council has scheduled a special meeting on Tuesday to consider adopting the 2023 operating budget. A public hearing is planned at 5:30 p.m. on amending the 2022 budget and at 5:45 p.m. on the operating budget.

Early learning sites in parish rated ‘High Proficient’ overall

St. Landry Parish’s Early Childhood Community Network’s 42 sites have an overall rating of “High Proficient,” according to a report by June Inhern, director of Early Learning and Head Start. Inhern said the sites are rated on 1 to 7 and the parish’s overall rating for 2021-2022 was 5.

St. Landry Parish public schools to receive new math curriculum

Starting next school year St. Landry Parish K-8 students will begin a new mathematics curriculum. And, if that makes parents nervous, the curriculum, iReady Classroom Mathematics, includes help for parents such as “family letter” allowing parents to find out about the week’s lesson.
