Church Point hospital board members ousted

After more than an hour of discussion that included investigative findings, threats of litigation and pleas for mercy, the Acadia Parish Police Jury replaced four members of the Acadia St. Landry Hospital Board of Commissioners “for cause” here Tuesday night.

Little change in Eunice election districts in remap

There is little change in the four wards that serve as election districts for the Board of Aldermen in Eunice in a plan adopted Tuesday. Demographer Mike Hefner, of Geographic Planning & Demographic Services, said the districts approved in 2010 held up “quite well.

The number 1 silent killer is hypertension, according to Dr. Kian Ehsan, an interventional cardiologist at Acadian Medical Center.

Sales tax collections off to strong start in Jan.

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections started the year off on a strong note with the January collections totaling $8,525,245, up 8% over the January 2021 total. The parish’s January collections were up $1,475,297 or 21% over the December total. The trend continues from the yearly total.

School Board settles on 4 new K-4 schools in tax proposal

The St. Landry Parish School Board in an 8-4 voted for a school plan that will build four kindergarten to fourth grade schools if a tax proposal passes on March 26. The sticking point to a unanimous consent was on whether to build two K-4 schools in the Beau Chene High School zone.
