Scavenger hunt benefits Miles Perret Cancer Services

From July 31 through Aug. 13, Miles Perret Cancer Services is hosting Games Across Acadiana: Acadiana’s Ultimate Scavenger Hunt! The two-week scavenger hunt will feature over 50 missions and activities for the whole family.

ECCBC announces its summer concert The ECCBC announces its 2021 summer concert, “Be Our Guest!” It is the 31st anniversary of the ECCBC. Concert dates are set at 7 p.m. July 15 and July 16 at First Baptist Church in Eunice. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

There are still a few of us of a certain vintage who remember the rough-and-ready days of Evangeline League baseball, where rivalries were so hot that at most games you were more likely to see a big brawl than a double play.

Fireworks tonight

The Eunice Fourth of July fireworks show is scheduled at 9 p.m. today at the Eunice Recreation Complex on Sittig Road. The show is sponsored by the City of Eunice.

School Board votes for 3 tax propositions

Tax propositions for pay raises and capital improvements were approved by the St. Landry Parish School Board for a March 26, 2022, election. The vote was made without comment from Board members, but followed months of discussion. The proposals total 21.9 mills in three separate propositions.

Eunice Library funding escapes veto; LSUE project vetoed

The request for $350,000 in state funding to renovate the Eunice Library has escaped Gov. John Bel Edwards’ veto pen. Edwards released his list of vetoes on Friday and they included items in the state Capital Outlay Bill. While the Eunice Library was not vetoed, it was on the list as Priority 5.

Peart fireworks

Peart supervising Eunice fireworks show on July 4th

The fireworks show at the Eunice Recreation Complex is scheduled at 9 p.m. Sunday and lasts about 30 minutes. A grand finale of fireworks is planned to end the show. Kenneth Peart, former mayor and Eunice’s expert pyrotechnist, hopes that the finale will be bigger and even better than last year’s.
