Solution sought to roadside debris piles

City crews stopped picking up roadside debris on June 1 and Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said its the number one topic around town. The debris situation was among the items on the Board of Aldermen’s agenda Tuesday. Fontenot said the city is running its grappler truck, but it is not keeping up.

A new report by the federal Office of the Director of National Intelligence doesn’t use the term “flying saucers” or even “UFOs,” but says there are dozens of instances of “unidentified aerial phenomena” that it can’t explain.

Acadia Parish began an inmate litter abatement crew during June. Inmates picked up trash on 14 days in various areas of the parish. During the 14 days, 456 bags of trash were picked up along with numerous items including mattresses, washers, dryers, trampolines and tires. The Eunice Community Concert Band and Choir is returning for two performances this week. Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the First Baptist Church, 331 Park Ave. The group’s performances were suspended in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Parish Government audit finds healthy finances

An annual audit of St. Landry Parish Government found its finances healthy and findings that involved budget variances. Steve Moosa, CPA of Darnall, Sikes & Frederick, delivered the audit report at a meeting of the St. Landry Parish Council’s Administrative-Finance Committee on Wednesday.

ECCBC announces its summer concert The ECCBC announces its 2021 summer concert, “Be Our Guest!” It is the 31st anniversary of the ECCBC. Concert dates are set at 7 p.m. July 15 and July 16 at First Baptist Church in Eunice. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12.
