7th annual Fête-Dieu du Teche Eucharistic Boat Procession to honor the Christian family

The 40-mile Eucharistic Procession by boat, Fête-Dieu du Teche 2021, is to take place Aug. 15, and coincides with the Year of St. Joseph and the Year of the Family.

School Board votes for 3 tax propositions

Tax propositions for pay raises and capital improvements were approved by the St. Landry Parish School Board for a March 26, 2022, election. The vote was made without comment from Board members, but followed months of discussion. The proposals total 21.9 mills in three separate propositions.

Eunice Library funding escapes veto; LSUE project vetoed

The request for $350,000 in state funding to renovate the Eunice Library has escaped Gov. John Bel Edwards’ veto pen. Edwards released his list of vetoes on Friday and they included items in the state Capital Outlay Bill. While the Eunice Library was not vetoed, it was on the list as Priority 5.

ECCBC announces its summer concert The ECCBC announces its 2021 summer concert, “Be Our Guest!” It is the 31st anniversary of the ECCBC. Concert dates are set at 7 p.m. July 15 and July 16 at First Baptist Church in Eunice. Tickets are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

Peart supervising Eunice fireworks show on July 4th

The fireworks show at the Eunice Recreation Complex is scheduled at 9 p.m. Sunday and lasts about 30 minutes. A grand finale of fireworks is planned to end the show. Kenneth Peart, former mayor and Eunice’s expert pyrotechnist, hopes that the finale will be bigger and even better than last year’s.

Jobless rates down from a year ago, workforce grows

Staff Report Tri-Parish unemployment rates and the workforce are down from a year ago, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Louisiana Workforce Commission. The Tri-Parish workforce number 67,716 in May, up 500 over May 2020.

Edwards announces coronavirus relief aid

BATON ROUGE — The City of Eunice is to receive $3,629,731 as part of $315 million in federal coronavirus relief aid announced Wednesday by Gov. John Bel Edwards.

Leadership St. Landry and the St. Landry Chamber Foundation are now opening accepting applications for the second class of participants. The Foundation hopes to grow leadership within St. Landry Parish through parish asset identification and professional development.
