Chef Huguet to demonstrate crab cake preparation

Liberty Theater renaissance

The Cajun, Creole and swamp pop music cranked up 29 years ago at the Liberty Theater, but in recent years the attendance has been anemic. A normal night’s crowd is about 50 people. Even the building fell on hard times. Earlier this year the city spent about $68,000 to stop leaks and mold.

Louisiana adds 7,300 jobs in October

Louisiana added 7,300 nonfarm jobs in October while the state’s unemployment rate declined from 6.4 percent to 6.3 percent, according to seasonally-adjusted data released Friday by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson along with representatives from INNOV8 Acadiana, a Community Foundation of Acadiana company, announced Friday that a new Business Accelerator, Accelerate Acadiana, will be established to the eight-parish Acadiana region.

Mamou council accepts vehicle donations

The Mamou council unanimously voted to accept the donation of vehicles from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and the City of Bossier City at its Nov. 9 meeting. Mayor Ricky Fontenot said, “These are vehicles that were donated. I went out and took a look at them.

Scientists find Deepwater Horizon oil in sparrows

Scientists have identified the first evidence of Deepwater Horizon oil in a land animal — the Seaside Sparrow. The scientists analyzed the diet and feathers of sparrows collected more than a year after the oil spill.

Expert says La. is in the crosshairs of climate change

Climate change, hurricanes and floods were hot topics during the Louisiana State University International Programs’ intercultural dialogue on weather, water and climate on Wednesday, with one presenter saying that whatever the extent of climate change will be Louisiana will be in the crosshairs.
