Bellard wins St. Landry Parish president race

Jessie Bellard easily won the race for St.Landry Parish president in Saturday’s election with 59% of the vote, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s website.

Board vote on deputy chief was years in the making

Eliminating a top position in the police department is a major decision and it is one the Eunice Board of Aldermen took at their March 9 meeting. The move probably shouldn’t have come as a surprise and there’s nothing subtle about a rift between Police Chief Randy Fontenot and the Board of Aldermen.

Men accused of raping girl

Two men have been charged with detaining two sisters and raping the younger one, according to a news release from St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Evil comes in all colors

The hashtag #White Supremacy is trending this week in the Twitterverse. That is due to the horrific murders of eight Asian Americans in Georgia. They were likely hate crimes, with ample evidence that the shooter of those innocent women was motivated by hostility against Asians.

Colorful ball brought governors, trappers together

As late as the middle 1950s the end of the trapping season was celebrated by an elaborate Trapper’s Ball that included the crowning of a king and queen, speeches by governors and assorted dignitaries, and, of course, dining, dancing, and a sip of something stronger than soda pop.

Aggravation: Is it a board game or a way of life?
