Dilapidated houses consumed the Eunice council’s time at their regular February meeting Tuesday. Four properties were on the agenda and the Board voted to condemn 151 S. St. George. No owner showed up for the hearing.

Opelousas Middle School reconsidered

The student population at the new Opelousas Middle School is to be split with a second middle school to be opened at Creswell Elementary next school year.

Eunice Rotary Club Citizen of the Year

The 2019 Rotarian Citizen of the Year is Rick Nesbitt. Nesbitt was nominated by Angela Huckaby of Eunice. Nesbitt is a radio broadcaster at KEUN. Nesbitt has been a resident of Eunice for the past 16 years and says he calls Eunice “home.” John Pucheu presented a plaque to Nesbitt on Wednesday.

Still time to enter the Taster’ Choice at LSUE

The 10th annual Taster’s Choice is set for 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at LSUE Acadian Center. The event is a cooking competition and is a major fundraiser for the Eunice Community Health Center. The event benefits the clinic. The center in Eunice provides under-insured and no-insured prescriptions.

Eunice Post Office may reopen within 90 days

The Eunice Post Office, closed since Sept. 23, 2019, may reopen by the end of March. Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot said he received information about the March reopening this week. Fontenot had considered asking the Board of Aldermen for a resolution requesting information from the U.S.

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. February 11 Rhonda Lafleur, 59, 200 block of Acadia Street, Eunice. Probation violation-hold. Ian Paul Langley, 28, 100 block of Acadia Street, Eunice.

Postal Service: Eunice Post Office to reopen in next 90 days

The U.S. Postal Service responded to a Eunice News inquiry about the Eunice Post Office that the facility will reopen within 90 days. The main building at 3rd Street and Laurel Avenue has been closed since Sept. 23, 2019. The Postal Service cited mold issues in the building for the closure.
