Eunice Mardi Gras schedule

The Eunice Mardi Gras music line up is scheduled for downtown Eunice beginning Feb. 21 and continues through Feb. 25 — Mardi Gras. The Eunice Mardi Gras season begins with the 10th annual Taster’s Choice event at the LSUE Acadian Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 19.

Mamou Mardi Gras schedule

The music in Mamou for Mardi Gras weekend begins Feb. 22 and continues throughout Mardi Gras day. Here is a schedule of the weekend’s events: Feb. 22 Performing at the south end of 6th Street: Ferral Manuel and Wild Rice from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys from 2 to 5 p.m.

Council OKs Acadia-St. Landry Hospital tax on ballot

The St. Landry Parish Council approved placing a tax proposal for the Acadia-St. Landry Hospital Service District on the May 9 ballot. Cindy Walters, hospital CEO, spoke at the Parish Council’s meeting Wednesday in Opelousas. The proposal is for a 10-mill property tax for 10 years.

Port Barre man sentenced for carjacking, firearm, kidnapping

Jon Michael Mauldwin, 28, was sentenced today to 241 months in prison and five years of supervised release for a federal carjacking and related firearms charge stemming from the kidnapping of a Port Barre man, announced David C. Joseph, United States Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana.
