Man killed in Palmetto shooting

St. Landry Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz has confirmed that his office responded to a shooting on Carmons Road in the Palmetto area at about 11 p.m. on Sunday. The shooting resulted in the death of a 28-year-old black male from Palmetto.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. January 18 – 21 Jeremy Douglas Dean, 45, 200 block of Meadow Circle, Opelousas. Bench warrant, switched license plate, failure to secure vehicle registration, driving under suspension. Arrested by Louisiana State Police.

It is with great sadness that the family of Essie J. Common announces her passing on Saturday, January 18 at 2:57 p.m. at the Eunice Manor Nursing Home in Eunice. She was 88. A celebration of life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 25 at 2 p.m. at St. Mathilda Catholic Church in Eunice.

EPSB hears of acting principal at VPHS

Evangeline Parish Superintendent of Schools Darwan Lazard announced during Wednesday’s meeting of the Evangeline Parish School Board that Ville Platte High has a new acting principal, effective Tuesday, January 14. The new principal is Willie Goodley, who has been in education for over 40 years.
