ECCBC Children’s Choir practice set The Eunice Community Concert Band & Choir Inc. announces its Children’s Choir rehearsals for the upcoming Christmas Concert. Rehearsals are set at 6 p.m. Nov. 21 and Nov. 27 at First Baptist Church.

LSUE speech and debate team wins

Five LSU Eunice students attended the Red River Swing Speech and Debate Tournament held in November on the campus of LSU Shreveport. Four members of the LSUE Speech and Debate team placed at the tournament. Placing in the Novice Debater category were Brock Berard of St.

Gov. John Bel Edwards issued an official statement of recognition for LSU Eunice’s dedication to honoring Louisiana veterans and their service to the country on Veterans Day. With the governor’s declaration of recognition and a proclamation declaring Nov.

Rotary, Super 1 food drive dates released

The annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive sponsored by Super 1 Foods is here. Each year, it is the Eunice Rotary Club’s goal to deliver baking hens and boxes of food to 100 needy families in the Eunice area.

Edwards defeats Rispone

Gov. John Bel Edwards defeated businessman Eddie Rispone as he seeks a second term.  Statewide returns show Edwards with 51% of the 1,508,597 votes cast in Saturday’s election. That was with 100% of the 3,934 precincts reporting. The results are unofficial. At 10 p.m.

St. Landry Parish jail tax fails

St. Landry Parish voters defeated a one-mill, 10-year property tax renewal for operating and maintaining a jail facility in St. Landry Parish. The tax failed with 53% of the 25,970 votes cast in Saturday’s election voting against it. About $646,400 is expected to be raised annually from the tax.

McGovern wins assessor’s race

Sherri Zeringue McGovern defeated Blair Briggs to win election as St. Landry Parish Assessor. McGovern won 60% of the 28,853 votes cast in Saturday’s election, according to complete but unofficial returns. McGovern will succeed Ryhn Duplechain who has served 33 years as assessor.

Fontenot wins 3rd term as parish president

Bill Fontenot won a third term as St. Landry Parish President in Saturday’s election Fontenot won 53% of the 29,052 votes cast to defeat a challenge by District 6 Parish Council member Ken Marks. Fontenot becomes the first Parish President to win a third term in the office created since St.
