Parish burn ban may get repealed

A ban on burning in rural St. Landry Parish subdivisions passed in June is on the Parish Council’s Wednesday agenda. And this time the agenda item is for repeal of the ban at the meeting scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Old City Market, 131 W. Bellevue St., Opelousas.

Parties ‘targeting Louisiana’ for redistricting

Republican strategist Karl Rove is expecting a “heckuva battle” over redistricting and the legislative races that will precede the process, according to an op-ed he wrote in The Wall Street Journal last week, and Louisiana will certainly be in the mix.

Parish sales tax collections rebound

Staff Report Year-to-date St. Landry Parish sales tax collections through August totaled $47,033,123, up 1% over the same eight-month period a year ago, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division. The report shows a rebound in total collections.

All music is on the street for celebration — and free

All the music during the city’s 125th birthday celebration Saturday will be outside and free. The National Park Service is presenting of the Grammy-award winning band, Pine Leaf Boys, at 6 p.m. There will be specially designed birthday T-shirts on sale for $15 each as well as posters.

Eunice Police arrest

The following is an arrest by Eunice Police. September 12 Perry Voris, 25, 600 block of College Road, Eunice. Two counts of criminal damage to property, two counts of resisting an officer, careless operation of a motor vehicle and no driver’s license.

Police: Woman dragged by hair, beaten

A 25-year-old Eunice man is charged with domestic abuse battery and false imprisonment after dragging a woman out of a vehicle and into a residence where he beat her, Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.

Man faces laundry list of charges

After a fight that went as far as putting a trash can over his girlfriend’s head and then leading police on a chase that included bashing into a police car, Chaddick Demoine Senegal, 25, faces a slew of charges. On Wednesday, Eunice Police were called at 4:48 p.m.
