Hunters for the Hungry scheduled The Refinery Mission’s annual Hunters for the Hungry food drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Local sportsmen and their families are encouraged to “clean out your freezers” and donate frozen processed game and fish from the 2018 season.

LSU AgCenter plans crawfish workshops

The LSU AgCenter will host five crawfish meetings in south Louisiana to help producers get ready for the upcoming season. “Pond management, including water and vegetation management, are among the topics that will be addressed,” said Mark Shirley, LSU AgCenter crawfish specialist.

LSU recognized as a top tier national university

In U.S. News & World Report’s 2020 edition of Best Colleges, LSU is ranked in the top tier for “Best National Universities” for the 12th-straight year, and the undergraduate petroleum engineering program ranks 3rd overall.

Sept. 11 heroism celebrated

On Sept. 11, Ardoin’s Funeral Homes in Eunice, Iota and Basile provide free barbecue plate lunches to all first-responders. Ardoin’s in Eunice had their staff and volunteer cooks on site that prepared barbecue pork steaks and all the trimmings, actually 225 plate lunches.

Grammy-award-winning band to be presented free at birthday event

All the music during the city’s 125th birthday celebration Saturday will be outside and free. Eunice Mayor Scoott Fontenot said the National Park Service is paying for the presentation of the Grammy-award winning band, Pine Leaf Boys, at 6 p.m. Saturday.
