Council kicks ankle bracelet deal back

An agreement to pay $10 a day for ankle bracelets on parish inmates was rejected by the St. Landry Parish Council’s Administrative-Finance Committee. Councilman Harold Taylor, who is not a member of the committee, urged the agreement be renegotiated with St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.

Parish sales tax collections up 8.2% over last year

St. Landry Parish sales tax collections were up 8.2 percent compared to the first two months of 2018. The parish total for January and February was $12,210,130, up $929,742 from 2018’s first two-month total, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division.

Bicycle registration program is near

Eunice Police plan a day of registering bicycles on March 23, according to Police Chief Randy Fontenot, who gave an update on the program at Tuesday’s meeting of the Board of Aldermen.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has closed Sherburne Wildlife Management Area South Farm for all public use due to flooding. Increasing water levels in associated river systems has caused backwater flooding on the South Farm area.

Ambulance Committee at odds over permit vote

Tempers flared Thursday night when the Acadia Parish Police Jury’s new Ambulance Committee met for the first time and, with officials from three different ambulance services present, that might be expected. But the flare-up wasn’t among the ambulance officials.
