River to stay over 7 feet into early April

High water is here to stay at least for a while. Forecasters anticipate the Atchafalaya River will stay above 7 feet through early April after reaching its projected 8-foot crest March 15 in Morgan City. The initial projected crest was March 20 at the same height.

Polls in Abbeville will be open on May 4. Voters within the City of Abbeville will have the opportunity to make one decision on that day, whether to pass a half-cent sales tax that would fund raises for all city employees.

3 ordinance amendments on city agenda

Police, fire department pay raises headed to voters

A proposal for a one-quarter cent sales tax to fund pay raises for Eunice police and fire department employees is headed to voters at a special election scheduled May 4. The Eunice Board of Aldermen approved a resolution calling for the election at special meeting on Wednesday.

Eunice Elementary roof work approved

Two change orders for roofing work at Eunice Elementary were approved by the St. Landry Parish School Board on Thursday. On Aug. 2, 2018, the Board approved $1,099,000 for roof replacement at the elementary school and Eunice Junior High School.

Crowley bank robbed

Police here continue to investigate the Wednesday afternoon robbery of a local bank. According to Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, the robber entered the main branch of Bank of Commerce and Trust Co. at 326 N. Avenue G at around noon, walked up to the teller and demanded cash.
