St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office arrests

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Nov. 2 Gaige Joshua Ellis, 19, 400 block of Main Street, Krotz Springs. Terrorizing (two counts), telephone harassment. Arrested by Krotz Springs Police Department. Jaylin Lamb, 22, 100 block of Orchid Drive, Opelousas.

Larria D. Marcantel, age 57, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice.

Houston Lejeune

Houston Lejeune, age 92, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2018. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018, at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice. Burial will follow at Morgan City Cemetery in Morgan City, La.

Practically any town built when most structures were made of wood and crowded close together has suffered a disastrous fire. Water supplies were often poor or non-existent, and volunteer firemen were usually ill-trained and ill-equipped.

More arrests in Coburn’s theft case

Two more people have been arrested in connection with a series of thefts from Coburn’s Supply Company warehouse on 120 E. Magnolia Ave., Eunice. Those arrested are: Frank Travasky, 21, 300 block of North St. Joseph, Eunice. Unauthorized entry of a place of business and theft valued $25,000 or more.

Most Eunice area elections to be decided Tuesday

There are only three elections in the Eunice area that have a chance of entering a runoff on Dec. 8. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday for an election that includes a contest at the top of the ballot for secretary of state.

School Board members wrangle over little known position

A school job that many people probably never heard of snared the St. Landry Parish School Board in nearly an hour long discussion. The assistive technology job involves helping special needs students with devices that enable them to learn.
