Iota farmer honored by Rice Festival

CROWLEY — The 82nd International Rice Festival will recognize Gerard Frey as the 2018 Farmer of the Year. Frey was born and raised in a rural community called Shortbread, northeast of Iota in Acadia Parish.

Rosa Mae Bertrand

Rosa Mae Bertrand passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice at the age of 80. A Celebration of Life was held at Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at Ardoin’s Funeral Home in Eunice. Burial followed in the St. Paul Cemetery with Deacon David Guillory officiating.

The annual St. Thomas More Church Fall Festival is scheduled Friday through Sunday. The festival opens at 5 p.m. Friday and fair rides run from 6 to 10 p.m. Fair rides are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday.
