John Dale Guillory passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the age of 73. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM at Quirk and Son Funeral Home in Eunice and will reopen on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 8:00 AM until time of services.

Parish Council closing in on racino split change

The Opelousas Police Department is on the verge of losing its 6 percent share of its split of the Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino money. The Council’s Administrative-Finance Committee voted to bring the Opelousas Police split to the full Council on Oct. 17.

City agenda again fills with dangerous properties

A list of properties referred to as “dangerous structures” filled the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting of the mayor and Board of Aldermen. A meeting to set the agenda began with three parish-owned properties on the agenda and updates on three other properties.

School Board slams door on health insurance change

A proposal for the St. Landry Parish School Board to change its health insurance program was defeated 12-1 to the obvious relief of a room packed with employees Thursday. Employees are now insured through the Office of Group Benefits, a state entity.
