Hazing among changes coming to Greek Life at LSU

LSU President F. King Alexander said Wednesday that the university would accept all 28 recommendations from the Task Force on Greek Life and added three new policies to improve the safety of Greek Life on campus. Alexander said one of the new policies includes a narrower definition of hazing.

Sunset receives $550,000 loan to improve drinking water

The Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health awarded a $550,000 loan to the Town of Sunset through the State’s Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund. The low-interest subsidized loan will help improve the Town of Sunset’s Water System.

Deadline nears for sheriffs’ scholarships

Sheriffs in St. Landry and Acadia parishes announced they will award $500 scholarships through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program. The scholarships will be awarded to a graduating senior in each parish. Applications area available at parish high schools.

Project to fight citrus disease

The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry and the LSU AgCenter are joining efforts on a project to fight citrus canker disease. Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, D.V.M., said the goal is to identify citrus canker tolerant satsuma cultivars.

Tips sought in Iota burglary

Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish needs help to solve a crime. Iota police are investigating a residential burglary which occurred sometime between Dec. 2 and 9, 2017, in the 600 block of South 5th Street in Iota. Firearms and silver dollar coins were stolen from a residence.
