A Reserve Officer Training Program with the Eunice Police Department was recently held those who completed the course were presented with certificates of completion. Also in the photo are some of the officers with the Eunice Police Department who were the instructors for the classes.

DOTD chief says project backlog is $13.4B

Transportation and Development Secretary Shawn Wilson said the construction backlog for the state now stands at $13.4 billion, which is an increase from where it stood when he was first took over the department in January 2016.

Armed robbery at store

An armed robber forced his way through the rear of the GameStop store near Walmart and took what police said was an undetermined amount of money at about 9 p.m. Tuesday. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said three employees were in the store at 1609 Highway 190 when the robbery occurred.

Rummage Sale at St. Mathilda Sept. 30 The St. Mathilda Church Altar Society will have a rummage sale beginning at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 30 at the St. Mathilda Catholic Church grounds. All proceeds from the sales will go to benefit St. Mathilda’s Church repairs and renovations.

Wickley Boullard

Wickley Boullard passed away on Monday September 18, 2017, at the age of 71. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 11:00 AM. at St. Mathilda's Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Ann's Cemetery in Mallet. Fr. Darren Eldridge will officiate.

St. Thomas More Church Fall Festival this weekend

The annual St. Thomas More Catholic Church Fall Festival is scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The family-oriented fun event begins from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, the festival will open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m., and Sunday the festivities are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Economic group to help pay for parish school strategic plan

The St. Landry Economic Development Board voted to share in the cost of a strategic plan for the St. Landry Parish School Board. On Tuesday, the Board approved sharing the $115,800 cost with Vision St. Landry, the School Board and the Greater Opelousas Economic and Industrial Devolopment Council.
