The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. Sept. 18 Daniel James Francis, 33, 300 block of Grand Rue de Josh, Opelousas. Simple robbery. Arrested by St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department. Alvin Jackson Kennedy II, 39, 500 block of Ribbon Rd., Opelousas.

EHS Booster Club meeting Tuesday There will be a EHS Booster Club meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Northwest Community Center in Eunice. There will be election of officers that night, and members are encouraged to attend. New members are welcomed. A meal will be served.

Mary Miller Lopez

Mary Miller Lopez passed away on Sunday September 17, 2017, at the age of 76. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at 10:00 AM. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with burial to follow at St. Louis Cemetery. Fr. Clinton Sensat will officiate.

Agnes Chaumont McGee

Agnes Chaumont passed away on Saturday September 16, 2017, at the age of 82. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at 10:00 AM. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with burial to follow at Miller Cemetery. Fr. Clinton Sensat will officiate.

Kent Brown is Rice Festival Rice Farmer of the Year

Kent Brown has been chosen as the 2017 Farmer of the Year by the International Rice Festival, according to Suzy Webb, festival president. This year’s festival dates are Oct. 19 to 22. Brown was born and raised in the small rural community of Hathaway, just north of Jennings, in Jeff Davis Parish.

Camper fire

Eunice firefighters, city marshals and Fire District 4 and 6 firefighters responded to a camper fire at 1440 W. Oak St. at about noon Thursday. The residents were not home at the time. No injuries were reported.

Eunice Rotarians donate $20,000 to free health care clinic

The Eunice Community Health Clinic received a $20,000 contribution from the Eunice Rotary Club on Wednesday. The free health clinic serves more than 400 people a month with primary health and a pharmacy, said Yancy Fontenot, the center’s executive director.

What were they thinking 25 years ago at LSUE?

The contents of a time capsule buried for 25 years on the LSUE campus were displayed Thursday at celebration in the Acadian Center. The items included a Louisiana scratch-off ticket with a top prize of $30,000.

VFW observes POW/MIA Day

The VFW Post 8971 officers and auxiliary recognized and honored POW/MIA Recognition Day Friday at the VFW Post Hall. The POW/MIA Recognition Day is held each year on the third Friday of September. The day is meant to pay special recognition to the U.S.

LSUE reports enrollment increase

LSU Eunice’s fall enrollment reached 3,051 students, which is a 5 percent increase over the 2016 fall enrollment and the first time there has been more than 3,000 students enrolled since 2010.
