Acadia Parish Crime Stoppers needs help to solve a burglary

The Crowley Police Department is investigating a vehicle burglary that occurred at about 11:30 p.m. June 18. The victim’s purse was stolen and a credit card was used at Burger King in Lafayette. A suspect is described as a black male with dreads and a beard.

Making candy at Prairie Acadian Cultural Center

Addie Huval, 12, is a camp participant at Camp Bonjour held this week at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve Prairie Acadian Cultural Center. On Monday, campers made boule rouge candy. Huval made her candy with chocolate. Turn to Page 6 for more camp photos.

The Eunice News wins several state press awards

The Eunice News won three first-place awards in the Louisiana Press Association Better Newspaper Competition for 2016. The awards were presented Saturday during the Mississippi Press Association/Louisiana Press Association Joint Convention in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Aldermen vote to condemn 2 properties

Eunice aldermen voted Tuesday to condemn two properties and gave a reprieve to others until their August meeting. A house damaged by fire last year at 1050 Faris Ave. has been condemned, which means the city may eventually demolish it.

Basketball tournament to feature police, pastors Leaders Building Leaders Basketball Tournament will feature Eunice pastors and police officers at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at New Zion Baptist Church’s Dr. J.G. Frank Building, 251 Nimitz St., Eunice.

Sales tax collections mostly on the upswing

Sales tax collections in Eunice and St. Landry Parish were, with one exception, on the upswing in June, according to statistics from the St. Landry Parish School Board Sales Tax Division. In Eunice, June collections were $431,498, up 4.6 percent from June 2016’s $412,680.
