Tuberculosis-exposed ICE detainee exposed others at Basile, Monroe

Attorney General Liz Murrill is suing the federal government to keep people at two detention facilities in Louisiana locked up beyond the period they can be held in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody because some detainees might have been exposed to a rare form of tuberculosis.

Church Point Police seek information about stolen pickup

The Church Point Police Department is investigating the theft of a vehicle from the 100 block of Olivier Highway the night of Oct. 10 or early morning hours of Oct. 11. The stolen vehicle is a 2002 Dodge 6000 pickup, blue and gray in color. It has a fifth wheel assembly in the bed.

Veterans Day edition planned

The Eunice News will honor area veterans in a special edition. Veterans Day is observed on Nov. 11. This is the sixth year for the tribute to veterans. Veterans may update or add information to previously submitted material. Biographical information about local veterans is requested.

LSUE holds Trunk or Treat Sunday

LSU Eunice will hold its fifth annual “Trunk or Treat” from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The free community event is at the LSU Eunice campus grounds.

Early voting is on pace to exceed vote of 4 years ago

The early voting pace in St. Landry Parish is on pace to exceed that of four years ago when there was another national presidential race that time Donald Trump versus Joseph Biden. As of Thursday, early voting in the parish totaled 9,220 for an average of 1,537 votes per day.

LSUE fall enrollment continues to soar

Louisiana State University Eunice is continuing its trend of growing enrollment with another record-breaking fall this semester.
