A great horned owl sits in the shadows of a pecan tree in the Tri-Parish area on a recent day. According to the National Audubon Society, the species of owl can be found in every state in the contiguous United States, and the owl has a large size, conspicuous "ear" tufts, a white throat, and horizontal bars on the belly.
