3 qualify for district judge

Three people qualified on Wednesday for the 27th Judicial District judge seat to be vacated by the retirement of Judge Gerard Caswell. The Division B seat includes western St. Landry Parish. Qualifying was held through Friday.

Christmas Parade of Lights today The third annual Eunice Christmas Parade of Lights hosted by the Eunice Chamber of Commerce is set for 6 p.m. today beginning at downtown 2nd in Eunice. The parade will feature dazzling lighted floats, festive music, and a visit from Santa Claus himself.

I hated the MeToo movement. It angered me that women who had waited decades to accuse Bill Cosby of rape were believed as if they were the Oracles of Delphi, and that women who had kept their mouths shut long enough to win Oscars, like Meryl Streep, were heralded for their courage.

Postal Service announces holiday operating schedule

The U.S. Postal Service announced that all branches will be closed in observance of Christmas and New Year’s Day. This closure affects all postal services, including retail services, mail delivery and blue collection boxes.

Excellence at East Elementary

East Elementary earned another A ranking in the school scores announced in November by the Louisiana Department of Education. The school with about 300 students at 550 Brother J. Road in Eunice also earned an A last year in the accountability scores.

Balfa Week takes center stage at city meeting

Eunice Mayor Scott Fontenot read a proclamation declaring Dewey Balfa Week in Eunice in March at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting. The week is scheduled March 19 to 24 as Dewey Balfa Cajun & Creole Heritage Week centered on Lakeview RV Park & Campground north of Eunice.

Food Bank shelves refilled

About five tons of food was collected during Tuesday’s Food Bank Food Drive. There were about 25 volunteers at the Food Bank from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. helping receive the donations at the Food Bank located at 2101 W. Ash St. behind the state Department of Motor Vehicle office.
