A distinctive sound of history

If I had to nominate one sound that epitomized the history of south Louisiana, I would be mightily tempted to suggest the chuff-chuff, chuff-chuff, chuff-chuff-chuff of a steam locomotive leaning into its load as it pulled out of a depot or freight yard.

LSUE enrollment up 4%

LSU Eunice has reported increases in both its enrollment and credit hours for the Spring 2023 semester compared to one year ago. The enrollment for LSUE’s spring semester is up 4.18% from last spring while scheduled credit hours has seen a 3.43% jump.

Attorney general, legislators call for restricting minors’ access to library materials

Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry has called for legislation to restrict what children and teens can check out from public libraries. He released a report Tuesday on what he considers sexually explicit materials available to minors at libraries.

‘Critical’ school tax votes ahead

The St. Landry Parish School Board began the process of calling votes on two tax propositions renewals this year. Superintendent Patrick Jenkins called both taxes renewals are “critical.” Combined the property taxes raise about $11 million for the school district.

The Eunice Rotary Club’s 2022 Citizen of the Year is Dwight Jodon. The nomination letter written by Patricia Dossman requested the club consider Jodon to be honored as Citizen of the Year.
