Trick-or-treat will be held in Eunice from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. The Halloween event on 2nd Street also is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Organizers request that no one wear a clown costume.
Nearly 3,000 people or 5 percent voted early in St. Landry Parish out of the 58,599 voters registered for the Nov. 8 election. Early voting began Oct. 25 and ends Tuesday . Early voting according to the Louisiana Secretary of State and as of Thursday were: St. Landry Parish — 2,942 total; 1,731 Democrats; 859 Republicans; and 353, other. Of the total, 2,207 people voted in person.
LOUISIANA — Voters statewide will be asked to decide yes or no on six proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution on the Nov. 8 ballot. Amendments 2, 3 and 5 are considered particularly significant because of their impact on state policy. They address who will set college tuition levels, the rate and deductions for corporate income taxes and a new trust fund to address state revenue surges.
OPELOUSAS — St. Landry Parish public school students are to start receiving free meals in November. Lucretia Chancler, supervisor of child nutrition, announced at a School Board Executive Committee meeting that it is possible for the school district to provide the free meals starting Tuesday.
Sounds of music filtered through the air at Lakeview Park on Thursday as the Blackpot Camp was drawing to a close. The annual camp draws people from across the nation and world for four days of music, dance and cooking classes. About 120 campers were this year, Lauren Kohn, camp director said.
