BASILE–Mom, Grandma, Sister and friend, Beatrice Ann Langley passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette at the age of 85. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Basile.

Gwendolyn Kay Thibodeaux passed away on Friday, August 12, 2022 at the age of 68. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2022 at Quirk & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Gary Gaudin officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Finding garden inspiration

By Heather Kirk-Ballard LSU AgCenter horticulturist I have the great fortune in my profession to get to visit many gardens. Some are associated with land-grant universities and some are large-scale nursery producers, with many having trial gardens to evaluate new plant cultivars.

Opelousas man arrested for indecent behavior with juveniles

A 54-year-old Opelousas man was arrested for indecent behavior with two juveniles. Emergy Savoy Jr., 200 block of School Road, is charged with first-degree rape, two counts of indecent behavior with juveniles, and two counts of sexual battery.

Eunice Police arrests

The following are arrests by Eunice Police. August 11 Roddy D. Manuel, 56, 4100 block of Duralde Highway, Eunice. Cyberstalking/electronic mail. LJ Ardoin, 60, 400 block of North St. Joseph St., Eunice. Stop and yield signs, operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Juvenile, 17.

The following are arrests reported by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. August 12 Korey Damion Ward, 21, 919 block of East Street, Opelousas. Possession of Schedule I CDS, illegal carrying of weapons, illegal possession of stolen firearms, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
