Opelousas man indicted in 4-year-old daughter’s death

A St. Landry Parish Grand Jury indicted an Opelousas man for the second-degree murder of his 4-year-old daughter on Nov. 20, 2021. Joseph C. Mayon, Jr. was indicted on Jan. 26 for second-degree murder and second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, according to District Attorney Chad Pitre.

Church Point hospital board faces deadline

The Acadia Parish Police Jury came up one vote short Friday morning of replacing most of the commissioners on the Acadia St. Landry board. State law requires a two-thirds vote to remove an appointee to a service district board. The vote was 5-3.

Firefighters from Acadia Parish Fire District 4 responded and reported to a house fire Friday at 3:26 p.m. at 162 Dan Drive located in Acadia Parish. Other firefighters responding to the fire as well included those from Richard fire department, Iota, Branch, and St. Landry Parish Fire District 6.
