Lafayette man dead after boating incident

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents are investigating a fatal boating incident that occurred in Catahoula Parish on Sunday. The body of Kevin E. Evans, 50, of Lafayette, was turned over to the Catahoula Parish Coroner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.

Drones useful for surveying duck broods

Researchers with the LSU AgCenter School of Renewable Natural Resources have found using drones equipped with thermal cameras is more effective and efficient in detecting duck broods than the traditional method of using ground surveys when observing nesting areas.

Drawdown scheduled for Henderson Lake

Based on the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recommendation, the St. Martin Parish Government has scheduled a drawdown for Henderson Lake in St. Martin Parish to manage aquatic vegetation. The southern control structure gates will open on Aug. 2.

Sherburne shooting ranges closed

All Sherburne Wildlife Management Area shooting ranges are closed until further notice as renovation work continues, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. LDWF anticipates approximately three weeks until construction will be complete.

LDWF agents participating in Operation Dry Water this weekend

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Law Enforcement Division (LDWF/LED) agents will take part in Operation Dry Water from Friday through Sunday. During the Operation Dry Water weekend, LDWF agents will be out in force patrolling state waterways for impaired boat operators.

Whooping crane population continues to make progress

Patience has paid off for one of Louisiana’s female whooping cranes that was a part of the initial population from 2011The female crane, designated L7-11, laid the first egg of the experimental population in 2014. However, that attempt, along with subsequent others for her, were unsuccessful.
