Additional days for Sherburne WMA waterfowl lottery hunts

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has added additional weekday (Tuesday and Thursday) opportunities to the current online Sherburne WMA General Waterfowl Lottery. LDWF is offering the hunts three days per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

LDWF schedules drawdown on Chicot Lake in September

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has scheduled a drawdown on Chicot Lake in Evangeline Parish for reduction of giant salvinia and for fish habitat improvement. The water control structure is scheduled to open on Sept. 5 and the lake should dewater at a rate of 1.

Juvenile whooping cranes released

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) recently added 10 whooping cranes to its experimental population, the most since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Insect infesting coastal cane expanding range eastward

An invasive insect that could be weakening stands of roseau cane across the Mississippi River Delta has spread farther east along the Gulf Coast, according to surveys performed by LSU AgCenter researchers. Native to China and Japan, the roseau cane scale was initially found in Louisiana in 2016.
