U.S. 190 wreck

A two-car wreck occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday on U.S. 190 east of Eunice. A Louisiana State Police trooper was investigating. Bystanders said there was a person in the ambulance, but believed that person walked there. (Photo by Harlan Kirgan)

Inmate accused of striking deputy

A 27-year-old inmate at the St. Mary Parish jail was charged with battery of a corrections officer after striking a deputy, Sheriff Scott Anslum said in a news release. —Aaron Cage, 27, of Third Street in Berwick, was arrested at 3:10 p.m.

Boy, 9, wounded in drive-by shooting

A Sunday morning drive-by shooting that wounded a 9-year-old boy on Boudreaux Street is being compared to a shooting that happened in June 2017. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot thinks there is a similarity to last year’s activities of the street gang known as Goons for Life.

Chief: Car burglar wrecks

A Lafayette man faces several charges after pulling vehicle door handles escalated to a high-speed chase and a crash in Eunice on Monday morning. Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said police were called at 7:15 a.m. about an attempted burglary at Walmart.
