Mobile app sports betting starts Friday in Louisiana; will it be a tax revenue win?

Sports betting on smartphones will be available in Louisiana ahead of this weekend’s NFL conference championships in the 55 parishes that have approved it. Ronnie Johns, chairman of the state’s Gaming Control Board, told The Advertiser the mobile applications can go live at 8 a.m. Friday.

The Tigers exploded for a 24-4 second quarter surge as Lake Arthur cruised to a 57-24 win over St. Edmund. Ian Dupre scored in the lane to give the Jays an early lead, but the Tigers answered with a 7-0 run.

St. Edmund powerlifting has a storied history including a state title in 1998 and a third place finish in 1999. Jason Daire was a state runner-up in 1998 and won it all in 1999.

Church Point grabs sweep over SEH

CHURCH POINT – It was a good night for the home teams as Church Point grabbed a sweep over St. Edmund. In the battle between the Lady Bears and Lady Jays, Church Point earned a 42-37 victory. The Lady Bears opened the game with a 13-8 run.

North Vermilion downs Eunice in district opener

MAURICE – It was not the way Eunice High wanted to open District 4-4A play as North Vermilion grabbed wins over both the Lady Cats and Bobcats. North Vermilion jumped out to a 21-2 first quarter lead as the Lady Patriots rolled to a 53-14 win over the Lady Bobcats.

Green Demons run past Jays

Mamou controlled the game from the opening tip as the Green Demons cruised to a 71-20 win over St. Edmund. Colin Enicke hit a trey to begin the Demon’s offensive barrage, but Garrett Dubois answered with a drive in the lane for the Jays.
