Bobcats look for successful season

Eunice High’s Scott Phillips is entering his 29th season as the Bobcats’ head baseball coach, and the excitement of new season still remains. “I can’t wait until opening day,” the coach said. “I have a great coaching staff and a good team.

LSUE grabs sweep over Alvin CC Dolphins

LSU Eunice freshman Chloe Bennett tossed a no-hitter in her Bengal debut as LSUE made a splash to open the season with a doubleheader sweep of Alvin CC on Tuesday at Lady Bengal Field. The Rosepine became the first pitcher in LSUE history to hold a team hitless in their Bengal debut.

Lady Jays grab win over OC

OPELOUSAS – St. Edmund grabbed a key District 5-1A win as the Lady Jays grabbed a 43-35 win over Opelousas Catholic. It was a two player show as St. Edmund’s Mary Helen Miller scored 21 points and OC’s Brittany Major pushed in 30 points.

It was a battle from the tip-off to the final buzzer as the St. Edmund Lady Jays rallied for a 35-34 win over Westminster Christian Academy. WCA (7-10, 1-3) opened the game with a slim 10-8 first quarter lead, aided by four points from Blakelyn Romero.

With eight seniors leading the way, the St. Edmund Blue Jays are looking to defend their District 5-1A baseball title. “They are experienced as they have been starting for us the last three years,” St. Edmund head coach Barry Manuel said.

The Lady Jays exploded for 15 points in the fourth quarter as St. Edmund rallied for a 30-26 District 5-1A win over rival Sacred Heart of Ville Platte. It was a close battle in the first quarter as the Lady Trojans opened with a 9-7 advantage.

Indians slip past Bobcats

Eunice High battled until the end, but Washington Marion left town with a 65-54 District 4-4A win. The Indians jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Brycelen Williams drilled a trey for the Bobcats. Washington Marion’s Justin Thomas answered with a three pointer as the Indians moved ahead, 14-3.
