Lady Jays travel to No. 8 Ascension Christian

St. Edmund travels to No. 8 Ascension Christian (13-13) at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Gonzales for a Select Division IV regional round contest.
No. 9 St. Edmund (9-17) received a first-round bye as the Lady Jays have earned a playoff spot three of the last four seasons.
The Lady Jays have gone to the playoffs six times in seven years under the direction of head coach Erica Zaunbrecher.
With a victory, the Lady Jays would face either e No. 1 Houma Christian (23-7), No. 17 St. Frederick (3-22) or No. 16 False River (7-17) winner in the quarterfinals.

Jamborees kick off baseball, softball seasons

The annual Perry Pitre Ford baseball jamboree will be held this weekend at both high school fields.
The junior varsity jamboree will be held Friday at Eunice High.
The varsity jamboree is set for Saturday at Blue Jay Field.
Friday’s action begins at 3:30 p.m. when Iota faces Opelousas Catholic.
Teurlings Catholic and Notre Dame meet at 5 p.m. followed by Mamou - Sacred Heart of Ville Platte at 6:30 p.m.
The Eunice High and St. Edmund junior varsity face each other at 8 p.m.
Sacred Heart and Mamou begin Saturday’s games at 10 a.m.at Blue Jay Field.

Blue Jays hold senior night

In the District 5-1A finale, the Basile Bearcats earned a sweep over the St. Edmund Blue Jays.
In the girls game, St. Edmund held a 33-28 lead heading into the fourth quater but Basile went on a 22-5 run in the final period to grab a 50-38 win.
Camille Leger scored five points in the first period including a trey to help the Lady Jays grab an 11-6 advantage.
The Lady Bearcats answered with a 12-11 second period surge, aided by five points by Kathryn Giles and four points from Nedasha Adams.
Gabby Fontenot led the Lady Jays in the second quarter with six points.

Bobcats fall to Port Barre

The Eunice High Bobcats dropped a 46-44 decision to the Port Barre High Red Devils in District 3-5A play Friday evening at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats opened the game with a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Red Devils used a 16-12 offensive spark in the second quarter to force a 27-27 tie at halftime. .
The Red Devils took the lead in the third quarter with a quick surge, outscoring the Bobcats by a 13-7 margin to hold a 40-34 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Bobcats stun Raiders

The Eunice High Bobcats claimed a 62-61 victory over the Northwest High Raiders in District 5-3A play Friday night at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats held the early advantage by a 21-16 margin at the end of the first quarter after Jude Cormier scored the first five points for the Bobcats.
Malik Poullard drained two three-point goals and added a three-point play attacking the goal and drawing a foul.
