He was the first baseball coach for the Bobcats and now Clarence Merricks joins the Eunice High Sports Hall of Fame.
According to Merricks, he was hired at EHS in the 1971-72 school year to fill an opening in math and science.
Just about everything that could go wrong for the Blue Jays against Bunkie did go wrong, but St. Edmund still had a chance to win.

Heading into fourth quarter leading 9-7, it looked like the Blue Jays might do just that.
But Bunkie scored on a late touchdown to steal a 14-9 win.
Over the years, the Eunice – Jennings rivalry has had its share of close games in the annual dog and cat fight.
This year was no different as the No. 9 Bobcats grabbed a 19-7 win over the Bulldogs.
The Blue Jays started off the James Shiver era with a 32-18 win over Vinton.
“We had some penalties (13-101 yards) and we made some mistakes (three intecceptions and three fumbles),” Shiver said. “But we won thegame.”
It was an impressive start to the season as No. 9 Eunice exploded 42 points in the fourth quarter and cruised to a 73-34 win over the Northwest Raiders.
It has been 50 years since the Purple Cobras played sports at Charles Drew High School.
