Bobcats honor seniors

In the battle for the District 5-3A championship, Iota High earned a two-game sweep over the Eunice Bobcats. The Bulldogs rallied back from an early seven run deficit to claim a 9-7 victory over the Bobcats in the first game of a two game series.

Blue Jays share district

By Tom Dodge Sports Editor LAKE CHARLES – Blue Jay pitchers Bryce Vidrine and Brad Miller combined for a two-hit shut out St. Edmund cruised to a 14-0 mercy-rule win over Hamilton Christian. With the victory, St. Edmund earned a share of the District 4-1A title.

Bobcat duo heads to next level

Their dreams to play college ball will come true for Eunice High senior baseball players Joshua Youngblood and Jayden Brasseaux. Youngblood signed a national letter of intent to play for Nicholls State University, while Brasseaux heads to Baton Rouge Community College.

Lady Dogs roll in playoff win

IOTA – The No. 10 Iota Lady Bulldogs opened the Class 3-A state softball playoffs with a 14-4 win over No. 23 Iowa. Iota (23-9) will take on the Kaplan in the regional round. No. 7 Kaplan (21-7) rolled to a 16-1 win over No. 26 Jennings in the bi-district round.

Lady Demons slip past Port Barre

MAMOU – It took seven innings before any one scored and then two more to determine a winner. Mamou’s Madison Fontenot doubled in the bottom of the ninth, advanced on a passed ball and then scored on a bunt by Dacia Richard as the Lady Demons grabbed a 2-1 win over Port Barre.

Eunice, Lady Bears fall in playoff opener

LONGVILLE – The No. 25 seed Lady Bobcats battled No. 8 South Beauregard, but the Lady Knights earned a 3-1 win over Eunice High in the opening round of the Class 3-A softball playoffs.

Kaplan High 3-peats as parish champs

The Kaplan Pirates and the Lady Pirates took care of business on Wednesday by sweeping the Vermilion Parish Track and Field Meet. Each school won the meet by at least 20 points. It is the third year in a row that both the Kaplan boys and girls win the track meet.

Notre Dame qualifies 16 for regional tennis action

A total of 16 players will be representing Notre Dame’s tennis teams at this week’s Division III Regional in Lake Charles. The 16 men and women qualified at district competition last week. The Pios had an overall league record of 8-4 and the Lady Pios finished the regular season at 7-5.

Lady Trojans, Lady Panthers just short in final game

Despite the fact that the Sacred Heart Lady Trojans and the Pine Prairie Lady Panthers are on their way to the LHSAA playoffs this coming week, both squads were hoping to finish the season on a winning note.
