Dreams do come true

At 4:10 p.m. Monday afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio, the dream will come true for Stuart Turner as he will join his Reds teammates on opening day against the Philadelphia Philles.
But that historic event for the former Eunice High and LSU Eunice standout is no surprise to his former coaches.
“He is the first baseball player from Eunice High to make it to the major league,” EHS head coach Scott Phillips said. “He is very deserving of this opportuntity.
“He has worked hard to get where he is at and it couldn’t happen to a better person.

District 5-1A team selected

After a sixth-place finish in district, the St. Edmund Blue Jays had three players selected to the 2017 All-District 5-1A team.
St. Edmund senior Austin Gradney was named to the All-Defensive team, while Alex Dupre and Carter Andrus were placed on the Honorable Mention list.
First Team selections included three North Central players: Reginald Stoner, Derrick Tezeno and MVP Nikembe Johnson.
Catholic High of Pointe Couppe’s Andrew Lacour and Damian Johnson from False River Academy were also named to the first team.

Church Point clips Eunice

Church Point exploded for four runs in the top of the first as the Lady Bears held on for a 9-5 win over the Eunice Lady Cats.
Eunice (7-14. 3-3) travels to Port Barre today as Disitrct 5-3A compeition continues.
Haley Doucet opened with a bunt single, stole second and scored when Morgan Guidry reached on a fielder’s choice.
Jalin Jones walked and Mikayla Dupre then doubled in two more runs.
Dupre later scored on a passed ball to give the Lady Bears a 4-0 advantage.

Lady Jays grab key wins

The Lady Jays opened the week with a pair of crucial wins, including a 7-6 thriller over Westminster Christian Academy.
St. Edmund (8-10, 2-1) travels to WCA today as District 5-1A action continues.
The Lady Crusaders grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Kassie Stalling singled, stole second and scored on a hit by Destiny Ledoux.
The Lady Jays tied the game in the bottom of the third when Olivia Clark tripled and scored on a hit by Abby Miller.
St. Edmund exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Lady Jays moved ahead, 7-1.

White, Walker land on 5-3A team

The Eunice Lady Bobcats finished fourth in district competition and placed two players on the 5-3A All-District list.
Stacie White was named to the All-District first team, while Leah Walker earned All-Defensive team honors.
District champion Ville Platte placed Ty’Reona Doucet and Miya McKinney on the first team, along with Northwest’s Jordan Duplechain and Tori Bordelon from Pine Prairie.
Doucet was named district MVP, while Ville Platte’s Dorothy Doulet earned District Coach of the Year honors.
