By Tom Dodge Sports Editor OPELOUSAS – The annual St. Landry Parish public school football jamboree will be held Friday at Donald Gardner Stadium. But before the first whistle blows at kickoff, the head coaches and staffs met in a pre-game supper to chat about the upcoming season.

LDWF schedules drawdown on Chicot Lake in September

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) has scheduled a drawdown on Chicot Lake in Evangeline Parish for reduction of giant salvinia and for fish habitat improvement. The water control structure is scheduled to open on Sept. 5 and the lake should dewater at a rate of 1.

Coach Gerald Hardy remembered

By Tom Dodge Sports Editor Long-time coach and educator Gerald Hardy passed away on Aug. 6. Hardy, 85, was born in Eunice on Nov. 16, 1937. The wake will be held Monday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Bishop Ceasar Hall. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mathilda Catholic Church.

Iota looks to defend district title

By Tom Dodge Sports Editor IOTA – The Bulldogs finished 9-3 in Ray Aucoin’s first season as Iota’s head football coach. After winning the District 4-3A title last season, Aucoin said his players have high hopes for another successful run in 2023.

Bearcats ready to defend district title
