Early voting continues Monday

Early voting for the July 11 election continues Monday in Eunice and Opelousas. Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, said said social distancing will be in place for the voting. Masks are recommended, but not required to vote. The Presidential Preference Primary is on the ballot.

Early voting points to November turnout reaching 60%

Early voting numbers are leading Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrar of voters, to predict the turnout for the Nov. 6 election may be as high as 60 percent. As of Friday afternoon, there had been 316 votes cast in Eunice and 2,047 placed in Opelousas.

Amendments await voters on Nov. ballot

Voters statewide will be asked to decide yes or no on six proposed amendments to the Louisiana Constitution on Nov. 6. These amendments address a number of serious issues. In particular, Amendment No. 2 would require unanimous verdicts in all felony cases.

Voter registration deadlines near

The last day to register to vote in person/by mail for the Nov. 6 will be at 4:40 p.m. Oct. 9, Cheryl Milburn, registrar of voters of St. Landry Parish, has announced. Registration online at Geaux Vote.Com is available through Oct. 16.

Early voting numbers surprise registrar

St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters Cheryl Milburn said Friday morning that she was surprised by the early voting turnout. “We are getting ... almost 150 a day and that’s great for a tax election,” she said. “I did not think it would be that great.

Early voting resumes Monday

Early voting for the March 24 election continues Monday in Opelousas. Voting will again be available at the Eunice City Hall Thursday through Saturday. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting also will be held at the St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters Office Monday through Saturday.

Early voting begins Saturday

Early voting for the March 24 election is scheduled to begin Saturday. Voting will again be available at the Eunice City Hall on March 10, and March 15 to 17. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting also will be held at the St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters Office March 10 and March 12 to 17.

Ethics revisions seem likely

The members of an advisory committee reviewing Louisiana’s ethics laws sound optimistic, some even confident, that significant policy changes will be recommended to the Legislature—maybe even in time for the regular session that begins March 12.

Early voting draws 941 votes for Saturday’s election

Saturday’s election, which is topped by a race for state treasurer, drew 941 early votes in St. Landry Parish, according to the state secretary of state website. There were 108 early votes cast in Eunice for this Saturday’s general election, Cheryl Milburn, parish registrar of voters, said.
