Bobcats win Invitational

The Eunice Bobcats opened the 2017 track season with a win, while the Lady Bobcats finished third in the EHS Invitational.
Eunice scored 152 points, followed by Opelousas (125), Crowley (79), Pine Prairie (71.5), Port Barre (44), Opelousas Catholic (32.5) and Iota (29).
John Mayo won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:43.94.
Javondre Edwards captured the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.79 and finished third in the 300-meter hurdles (44.47).
Lornza Thomas won the shot put with a throw of 40-7 1/2.

Bulldogs top Bobcats, 9-5

Jennings handed Eunice its first team loss of the tennis season as the Bulldogs grabbed a 9-5 win over the Bobcats Thursday at the Fairground courts.
In boys singles, Eunice High’s Zachary Joubert defeated Shad Noe, 8-5.
Bobcat Matthew Miller fell 8-0 to Kain Babineaux, while Cameron Fontenot rolled to an 8-0 win over Slade Walker.
In boys doubles, Jennings grabbed a 3-0 sweep.
Joubert and Miller fell 8-6 to Jackson Person and Noe.
Eunice duo Fontenot and Ting Jaing lost 9-7 to Spencer Stelly and Babineaux.

Bobcats cruise past OHS, 19-1

The Eunice High Bobcats discovered their offense as they pounded out 15 hits in a 19-1 blowout over the Opelousas High Tigers at Bobcat Field in baseball action Monday.
The game was originally scheduled to be played in Opelousas but was moved to Eunice because of field conditions in Opelousas.
The Bobcats wasted no time in attacking the pitching of the Tigers, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning after Bobcat starting pitcher Austin Phillips shut out the Tigers in his first inning of work.

Lady Bulldogs head to state

IOTA – It was a fight to the finish but when the smoke had cleared in overtime, the Lady Bulldogs advanced to the Class 3-A state semifinals after Iota earned a 71-64 win over Madison Thursday night.
With the win, the No. 2 Lady Bulldogs will face No. 6 Albany at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Southeastern Louisiana’s University Center in Hammond.
Albany upset No. 3 Winfield, 59-58 to advance to the semifinals.
Iota opened the game with an 19-14 run, sparked by four treys by the Lady Dogs.

Lady Jays travel to No. 8 Ascension Christian

St. Edmund travels to No. 8 Ascension Christian (13-13) at 6:30 p.m. Monday in Gonzales for a Select Division IV regional round contest.
No. 9 St. Edmund (9-17) received a first-round bye as the Lady Jays have earned a playoff spot three of the last four seasons.
The Lady Jays have gone to the playoffs six times in seven years under the direction of head coach Erica Zaunbrecher.
With a victory, the Lady Jays would face either e No. 1 Houma Christian (23-7), No. 17 St. Frederick (3-22) or No. 16 False River (7-17) winner in the quarterfinals.
