Nora Francois Samantha Hebert and Paxton Francois of Grand Prairie announce the birth of their daughter, Nora Kate Francois, born at Acadian Medical Center on Feb. 3 weighing 7 pounds and 1 ounce. Maternal grandparents are Tina O’Neal and Tony Hebert of Pine Prairie.

Prejean at Liberty Saturday

The “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” Cajun Music Radio & TV show Saturday at the Liberty Center at 6 p.m. will have a performance by George Prejean & Cajun Redemption. Admission is $5. Show starts at 6 p.m. The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. Starting at 10 a.m.

New pastor at First Baptist

The congregation at First Baptist Church of Eunice has a new pastor. The Reverend Brent Shoalmire performed his first sermon on Feb. 2. Rev. Shoalmire, 48, was born in Starkville, Mississippi, and grew up Ruston. He was ordained into the ministry in 2001 by Bellaire Baptist in Bossier City. Rev.

Highland Elementary’s 4-H Club donates to shelter

Highland Elementary’s 4-H Club sponsored a drive to support the Eunice animal shelter. They collected three bags of blankets and a number of pet toys. The local shelter is still in need of dog food if anyone would like to donate. From, left, are Cavin Hanchett, Allie Webre and Delsin Perez.

Vocations speakers at St. Edmund High School

Sister Jeanne d’Arc of Community of Jesus Crucified in St. Martinville and Father Patrick Broussard, Director of Vocations with the Diocese of Lafayette, spoke to juniors and seniors at St. Edmund High School about different vocations God may call one to in his/her life.

Student of the Year at Highland Elementary

Highland Elementary holds Fairy Tale ball

Highland Elementary held its first Fairy Tale Ball on Jan. 30 where students and their families attended. Requirements of the students were to wear fancy ball attire. Students and families enjoyed the dance, which was held inside the school’s “transformed ball room.

Happy Birthday!

Thirty-two years ago today I gave birth to my second born, a daughter. The birth was a terrifying experience because I did not expect to deliver her as a C-birth (Cesarean). My OB/gyn doctor during this time was Dr. Ferrazzano in Opelousas. He was a great doctor for her and my oldest daughter.
