What will be new at Eunice Elementary this school term? Eunice Elementary students will have a new interest and opportunity at school, music. As part of the school schedule, a music instruction class will be offered.

Grand first prize on St. Thomas More tickets

Angelia Guillory, owner of A & C Golf Carts, LLC, donated a 2014 E-Z Go customized golf cart to the annual St. Thomas More Church Fall Fest as its grand raffle first prize. The black and grey 48 volts, battery powered golf cart is valued at $7,000 and features four leather padded seats.

Business Garden of the Month chosen

The Eunice Bulb and Blossom Garden Club presented the marker of Business Garden of the Month to DC’s Sports Bar & Steakhouse, located at 1601 W. Laurel. The restaurant featured neatly groomed landscaped flowering beds of vincas, crepe myrtles and coleus. Pictured next to the sign is Brooke LeBleu.

Lesa Cormier at Liberty Saturday

The “Rendez-vous des Cajuns” Cajun Music Radio & TV show Saturday at the Liberty Center at 6 p.m. will have a performance by Lesa Cormier & Sundown Playboys. Show starts at 6 p.m. The Liberty opens at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, and children ages 7 to 12 are $3.

Youth hear ecology lessons at wetlands camp

By Johnny Morgan, jmorgan@agcenter.lsu.edu NEW ORLEANS — Twelve youths from Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes learned the basics of wetlands ecology at a wetlands camp on July 11-14. The 4-H junior leaders were interested in the wetlands and how they affect life in south Louisiana.

What to do after suffering a sunburn

Enjoying some summer fun outdoors can come with a price for some people in the form of a sunburn. I’m fortunate enough that I normally don’t burn, but I know family members and friends who suffer from sunburn. How to treat a sunburn properly is important to know and learn.

International Charities honor Ignace and Bertha Charles of Eunice

International Charities, Haiti Mission Inc of Louisiana and One Family International of Texas, have teamed up to rehabilitate a water well serving hundreds of Africans in a village in Uganda. The project honors the lives and memory of prominent residents of Eunice Bertha and Ignace Charles.

Final Story Time hour at library

Bobbie Bordelon, children’s librarian at Eunice Public Library, read a story book, “I Got The Rhythm,” by Connie Schofield, during Wednesday’s Story Time hour. Children had the opportunity to create their own maracas, and some won donated door prizes from library patrons and parents.
