Karen Fruge, a first year teacher at Highland Early Learning Center, has been nominated for St. Landry Parish’s New Teacher of the Year. She received the honor of New Teacher of the Year at Highland last year. Fruge began teaching at Highland in 2023.
April Smith, public information officer with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA), spoke to students and parents on how to qualify for LA TOPS scholarship awards, the different levels of TOPS awards, how to keep TOPS awards in college, financial aid, other scholarships, and on completing the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

In early December, the Bulb and Blossom Garden Club took part in the annual Christmas Festival at the Eunice Community Garden. Members used recycled cardboard rolls with the kids to make bird feeders by applying lard to the tubes and then rolling them in bird seed.
