Solar farm complaint countered

A complaint that a solar farm in the Plaisance area lowered property values was countered by Parish President Jessie Bellard. “The property values in those areas have gone up,” he said about the land changing from farm to commercial assessments.

EMTL fall registration set The Eunice Men’s Tennis League (EMTL) will begin its 2024 fall season league on Aug. 19. Registration is underway through Aug. 12 at the law office of Terry Hoychick, 141 South 6th, Eunice. Dues are $30. Captains’ meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 12 at Hoychick’s office.

DOTD announces road projects

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that beginning Monday construction will begin on an $2.4 million project on La. 3174 and La. 3173 from La. 105 to U.S. 190 in St. Landry Parish.

Accordionist, songwriter and singer Horace Trahan returns to lead the Zydeco Capital Jam from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center, I-49 exit 23, north of Opelousas. Trahan was one of the first musicians to kick off the monthly jam series in 2019, its debut season.

Festivals Acadiens et Créoles 50th anniversary celebration music schedule released

Festivals Acadiens et Créoles announced the music lineup for the 50th annual three-day free Cajun and Zydeco music festival, which will take place Oct. 11 and Oct. 13 at Girard Park in Lafayette.
