Walmart Distribution Center tax deal OK’d

Walmart is to begin paying a tax on its distribution center north of Opelousas by October 2029, according to St. Landry Parish President Jessie Bellard. The tax is to be on its equipment in the building located off Interstate 49 that employs about 1,000 people.

Assessor: St. Landry Parish taxable value rises to $866M

St. Landry Parish’s taxable value as of 2024 is $866 million, up from $690 million in 2020, according to St. Landry Parish Assessor Sherri Zerangue McGovern. “It is a 26 percent increase in taxable value. It is huge. It is very represented with what inflation that we have seen.
