The meeting to set the agenda for the July 9 Eunice Board of Aldermen’s meeting will be held at noon Wednesday at the Eunice Mayor’s conference room. The meeting is open to the public.

City of Eunice offices closed Thursday, Friday for July 4th On June 24 Governor Jeff Landry issued a Proclamation declaring Thursday, July 4 and Friday, July 5, as legal holidays in observance of Independence Day.

St. Landry Parish marriage licenses

The following people obtained marriage licenses from the St. Landry Parish Clerk of Court Office, Opelousas. Tuesday, June 18 Preston Duran Nations and Katrina Jean Hardy, both of Port Barre. Brian O’Neal Leday. and Lahaina Chantez Simien, both of Opelousas.

Faul takes oath as Acadia Parish clerk of court

Surrounded by members of her family, Laura Trahan Faul took the oath of office as Clerk of Court for Acadia Parish in ceremonies Wednesday afternoon at Main Street Patio.

Evangeline Parish sheriff says jail construction has started

Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory announced the start date for the new parish jail was June 25. Initially, the start date was scheduled for a week prior, but the start was delayed because of tropical weather that moved across the area.

Peart plans a flashy finale on the Fourth

Kenneth Peart, former mayor and expert pyrotechnist, “It will be bigger and better!” he said of the 4th of July fireworks to begin at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Recreational Complex on Sittig Road.

Board approves annexations

In a rare occurrence, the Eunice Board of Aldermen approved two annexation requests at a special meeting on Wednesday. Both are for businesses on the south side of U.S. 190 on the west side of the city. One request is for a Whataburger on 1.38 acres and the other is for 1.

City’s budget approved

The Eunice Board of Aldermen approved the 2025 fiscal year budget at a special meeting on Wednesday. The Board also OK’d amending the 2024 fiscal year budget along with two annexations.
