Mamou student on honor list

Elizabeth Shaw of Mamou was named to the Dean’s List for the spring 2024 term at University of Maryland Global Campus. To be eligible for the honor, a student must complete at least six credits during the term, earned a grade point average of at least 3.

Parish sales tax collections continue to climb

St. Landry Parish Sales tax collections continue to climb with total revenue through May up 13.6% over the same period in 2023, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division on Wednesday.

Planning safer towns

Safe and active ways to get to everyday activities, such as walking or biking to the supermarket or bank, was the focus of the second Louisiana Rural Complete Streets Summit. The event was recently held at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge.

McNeese rodeo team is going to the College National Finals Rodeo

The McNeese State University men’s rodeo team is the champion of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s (NIRA) Southern Region for the third year in a row.

Sewer plant heads to showdown

A sewer plant built to assist development along Interstate 49 in the Opelousas area appears headed to a showdown at the next St. Landry Parish Council meeting. The issue is whether or not the plant’s ownership can be transferred to the City of Opelousas.
Fireworks were discussed at Tuesday’s Eunice Board of Aldermen’s meeting. Former mayor brings fireworks to city meeting

Former Eunice Mayor Kenneth Peart showed up at Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting with fireworks shell in hand and an announcement. “I seem to remember this place,” he said. Peart served as mayor from 1996 to 2002.
