Flooding rains occurred at about 5 p.m. Tuesday in Eunice. U.S. 190 is shown flooded by the Amy Shopping Center, which is a normal placing for flooding when heavy rains occur.
A hearing will be held at 6 p.m today at the Eunice City Hall to hear comments on a proposed St. Landry Parish animal control ordinance.
The hearing is scheduled in the second floor Council Chamber.
St. Landry Parish sales tax growth slowed in July compared to previous months, according to statistics released by the St. Landry Parish School Board tax division.
As the school year begins today for students, the St. Landry Parish School Board voted to end corporal punishment.
The vote to end paddling and spanking students was made on a voice at the Aug. 4 School Board meeting.
Food Farmacy open house set Friday
The Eunice Community Garden will have a Food Farmacy open house from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at 2101 West Ash in Eunice, behind the DMV.
There will be refreshments.
Eunice High School FFA students, Jasmine Vargas and Wesley Doucet were state winners and advance to compete on the national level. Vargas and Doucet were introduced at the St. Landry Parish School Board meeting on Thursday.
Fête-Dieu du Teche 2022, to take place Aug. 15, coincides with the three-year Eucharistic Revival underway in the United States.
First United Methodist Church of Eunice welcomed a new pastor and assistant to the pastor this summer. Dr. Warren Langford begins serving as pastor and his assistant is Mrs. Christy Brammer.
The City of Opelousas, Zydeco Music Capital of the World, hosts the Annual Zydeco Breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 3 in downtown Opelousas on the St. Landry Parish Courthouse Square.
